What we teach

History Tutoring

History is assessed on argument and use of evidence, not on how much the student can recall. The most common cause of a disappointing grade is a well-informed answer that never actually argues anything.

Lessons build the two core skills the mark schemes reward: constructing a sustained line of argument that answers the question set, and using sources and interpretations analytically — provenance, purpose and limitation — rather than paraphrasing them.

We tutor GCSE and IGCSE history, A-Level history including the coursework component, IB History HL and SL, and AP World, European and US History with their DBQ and LEQ formats.

In the lesson

What a lesson actually looks like

1

A diagnostic first lesson

The tutor works through a short set of problems to find where understanding actually breaks down — which is usually one or two topics earlier than the one causing trouble in class.

2

Teaching, then practice under exam conditions

Concepts are taught from first principles on the shared whiteboard, then applied to past-paper questions from the student's own board, timed and marked against the real mark scheme.

3

Feedback the student can act on

Each lesson ends with what went well, the specific technique to fix, and targeted practice before the next session. Parents get regular progress updates.

History tutoring starts from USD 15 per hour. See all plans.

FAQ

History tutoring — your questions

How do you approach the AP DBQ?

As a structured task with a rubric that can be worked through point by point — thesis, contextualisation, evidence from the documents, evidence beyond them, and sourcing. Students who learn the rubric as a checklist reliably outperform students who write well but ignore it.

My child knows the content but scores in the middle bands. Why?

Almost always because they are narrating rather than arguing. The fix is structural: decide the judgement first, then use the content to support it. It usually shows up within a few marked essays.
