What we teach

Chemistry Tutoring

Chemistry splits into three quite different disciplines wearing one name — and students usually cope with two of them. Our tutors identify which strand is the weak one and rebuild it, rather than revising everything at the same shallow depth.

Physical chemistry needs confident calculation; organic needs pattern recognition across mechanisms; inorganic needs structured recall. Each responds to a different kind of practice, and treating them identically is why generic revision often fails in this subject.

We tutor GCSE and IGCSE chemistry and combined science, A-Level chemistry, IB Chemistry HL and SL, and AP Chemistry — always against the student's own specification, because the boards genuinely differ on required mechanisms and prescribed practicals.

In the lesson

What a lesson actually looks like

1

A diagnostic first lesson

The tutor works through a short set of problems to find where understanding actually breaks down — which is usually one or two topics earlier than the one causing trouble in class.

2

Teaching, then practice under exam conditions

Concepts are taught from first principles on the shared whiteboard, then applied to past-paper questions from the student's own board, timed and marked against the real mark scheme.

3

Feedback the student can act on

Each lesson ends with what went well, the specific technique to fix, and targeted practice before the next session. Parents get regular progress updates.

Chemistry tutoring starts from USD 15 per hour. See all plans.

FAQ

Chemistry tutoring — your questions

Why do mole calculations cause so much trouble?

Because they are usually taught as a formula triangle rather than as a unit conversion. Students who learn to track units through a calculation stop guessing which way round to divide, and the same reasoning then carries into titrations, gas volumes and yield questions.

How do you teach organic mechanisms?

As a small number of repeating patterns rather than a long list to memorise. Once a student can see where the electron density is and what the leaving group is, most A-Level and IB mechanisms become variations on about six themes — and unseen mechanisms in the exam stop being unanswerable.

Do you cover the IB internal assessment?

We can support the thinking behind it — research question, variables, data treatment and evaluation — and give feedback on drafts. The work must be the student's own and is assessed by the school under IB academic integrity rules, so we coach the skills rather than contributing content.
