What we teach

Biology Tutoring

Biology looks like the memorisation subject and is marked like an analysis subject. Students who learn the content but not the command words plateau around a grade below where their knowledge sits.

Our tutors drill the difference between describe, explain, evaluate and suggest, and build the habit of answering with the number of marks in view. Alongside that, we work through data-handling and statistics questions, which are now a substantial part of every major specification and the place students most often lose marks unnecessarily.

We cover GCSE and IGCSE biology and combined science, A-Level biology, IB Biology HL and SL, and AP Biology.

In the lesson

What a lesson actually looks like

1

A diagnostic first lesson

The tutor works through a short set of problems to find where understanding actually breaks down — which is usually one or two topics earlier than the one causing trouble in class.

2

Teaching, then practice under exam conditions

Concepts are taught from first principles on the shared whiteboard, then applied to past-paper questions from the student's own board, timed and marked against the real mark scheme.

3

Feedback the student can act on

Each lesson ends with what went well, the specific technique to fix, and targeted practice before the next session. Parents get regular progress updates.

Biology tutoring starts from USD 15 per hour. See all plans.

FAQ

Biology tutoring — your questions

My child revises hard for biology but the grades don't move. Why?

Usually because revision is recall-shaped and the exam is application-shaped. Knowing the stages of the cardiac cycle is not the same as explaining an unfamiliar graph of pressure against time. We shift practice towards unseen data and extended-response questions, which is where the marks actually are.

Do you cover the statistical tests?

Yes — chi-squared, Student's t-test, Spearman's rank and standard deviation, including when each is appropriate and how to phrase the conclusion. Boards differ on which are required, so we work from the student's own specification.

Is A-Level Biology a lot harder than GCSE?

The step up is real, and it is mostly in the depth of explanation expected rather than the volume of content. Students who did well at GCSE on recall alone tend to feel it in the first term — which is the best time to start support rather than waiting for mock results.
