What we teach

Mathematics Tutoring

Maths is the subject where gaps compound: a shaky grasp of algebraic manipulation in Year 9 quietly becomes an inability to integrate by parts at A-Level. Our tutors find the actual gap rather than re-teaching the topic the student is currently stuck on.

We tutor the full range — primary and Key Stage 3 number and reasoning, GCSE and IGCSE Foundation and Higher tiers, A-Level Pure, Mechanics and Statistics, IB Analysis & Approaches and Applications & Interpretation at both HL and SL, and AP Calculus AB/BC and AP Statistics.

Every lesson works from the student's own specification and past papers. Method marks are where most grades are lost in maths: students who can reach the right answer still drop marks for unshown working, and students who can't often earn most of the marks anyway if their method is laid out properly. We teach both halves.

In the lesson

What a lesson actually looks like

1

A diagnostic first lesson

The tutor works through a short set of problems to find where understanding actually breaks down — which is usually one or two topics earlier than the one causing trouble in class.

2

Teaching, then practice under exam conditions

Concepts are taught from first principles on the shared whiteboard, then applied to past-paper questions from the student's own board, timed and marked against the real mark scheme.

3

Feedback the student can act on

Each lesson ends with what went well, the specific technique to fix, and targeted practice before the next session. Parents get regular progress updates.

Mathematics tutoring starts from USD 15 per hour. See all plans.

FAQ

Mathematics tutoring — your questions

Which GCSE maths tier should my child sit?

Foundation tier is capped at grade 5, Higher runs grades 4–9. The decision usually comes down to whether the student can reliably access grade 5 material under time pressure. We run a past paper early on to answer that with evidence rather than a hunch, and it is a conversation to have with the school as well — entries are made by the centre.

What is the difference between IB Analysis & Approaches and Applications & Interpretation?

Analysis & Approaches (AA) is the more algebraic and proof-heavy route and is the usual expectation for maths, physics, engineering and economics degrees. Applications & Interpretation (AI) leans on modelling, statistics and technology. Both exist at HL and SL. We tutor all four combinations and can advise on the fit before the choice is locked in.

Can you help with A-Level Further Maths?

Yes — complex numbers, matrices, hyperbolic functions, polar coordinates and the Further Mechanics and Further Statistics options. Further Maths is usually taken alongside single maths, so lessons are planned so the two reinforce each other rather than competing for revision time.

How quickly do students usually see progress?

That depends on the size of the gap and how often lessons run, and any tutor who quotes you a guaranteed grade jump is selling rather than teaching. What we can commit to is a diagnostic in the first lesson and a specific, written plan for what will be covered and in what order.
