What we teach

English Language Tutoring

English Language is marked on demonstrable skill, not on knowledge — which is why it is the subject where targeted, marked practice moves grades fastest, and where unmarked revision moves them least.

Lessons focus on the assessment objectives themselves: identifying and interpreting explicit and implicit information, analysing how writers use language and structure for effect, comparing viewpoints across texts, and producing writing that is technically accurate and deliberately shaped for audience and purpose.

Every piece of student writing is marked against the real criteria with specific, actionable feedback, then redrafted. That loop — write, mark, redraft — is the part students rarely get enough of in a class of thirty.

In the lesson

What a lesson actually looks like

1

A diagnostic first lesson

The tutor works through a short set of problems to find where understanding actually breaks down — which is usually one or two topics earlier than the one causing trouble in class.

2

Teaching, then practice under exam conditions

Concepts are taught from first principles on the shared whiteboard, then applied to past-paper questions from the student's own board, timed and marked against the real mark scheme.

3

Feedback the student can act on

Each lesson ends with what went well, the specific technique to fix, and targeted practice before the next session. Parents get regular progress updates.

English Language tutoring starts from USD 15 per hour. See all plans.

FAQ

English Language tutoring — your questions

How is English Language different from English Literature?

Language assesses reading and writing skill on unseen texts — you are not examined on set books. Literature examines your knowledge and interpretation of specific studied texts. Most UK students sit both, and the analytical skills overlap, but the revision required is quite different.

Can tutoring really improve creative writing marks?

Yes, and usually faster than students expect — because most marks at GCSE are lost on structure, control and technical accuracy rather than on imagination. Those are all teachable. A student who plans deliberately and varies sentence structure with intent moves up bands quickly.

Do you support EAL students sitting English Language?

Yes. For students working in English as an additional language we usually spend more time on idiom, register and the technical accuracy strand, and can advise where Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language is the more appropriate entry.
