FAQ
Tutoring in United Kingdom — your questions
Do you cover AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC?
Yes — all four, and Cambridge (CAIE) for IGCSE and International A-Level. It matters more than families expect: the boards differ on required practicals, set texts, formula sheets and mark scheme wording, so lessons work from your school's actual specification and past papers rather than a generic syllabus.
Should my child sit Foundation or Higher tier at GCSE?
Foundation tier is capped at grade 5; Higher covers grades 4–9 with a steeper risk if the paper goes badly. We run a past paper early to base the decision on evidence rather than a hunch — but the entry itself is made by the school, so it is a conversation to have with them too.
Do you prepare students for the 11+?
Yes — verbal and non-verbal reasoning, English and maths for both GL Assessment and CEM-style papers, plus the independent-school ISEB Common Pre-Test. Grammar school formats vary by county, so tell us which schools you are applying to and we will match the practice to those papers.
Can you help with A-Level subject choices for a UCAS application?
We can talk through how subject combinations sit against typical course requirements, and tutors who teach the subject daily are a good source on what each one actually demands. For formal admissions advice your school's careers team and the universities' own published entry requirements should be the deciding source.
What time are lessons and do they fit around the school day?
Tutors schedule in UK time, with after-school, evening and weekend slots, and expanded availability over half-terms and the Easter revision period — which is when most families want intensive sessions before the summer series.
Do you tutor Scottish qualifications?
We focus on the GCSE/A-Level and IGCSE pathways used across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, plus Cambridge International. If you need National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher for the SQA, ask us before enrolling and we will tell you honestly whether we currently have a specialist for that subject.
